The project is located in the territory of the Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw, in the Great Bear rain-forest, on the Pacific Coast of British Columbia. This is one of the richest and most diverse biospheres on earth and is the geography that cradles origin stories of the Kwakwaka’wakw people that trace back more than 10,000 years.
Nawalakw’s vision is to become the first place on earth where Kwak’wala will be spoken again immersively, sparking a revival of language and culture throughout Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw territory.
Markus was initially retained by the Nawalakw Healing Society to develop a business plan for a self sustaining language immersion and guardian facility, experience centre and eco-tourism lodge. He is currently engaged on phase 1 design and construction planning and phase 2 implementation work.
