The Maaqutusiss Hahoulthee Enterprise Inc. was incorporated by the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ Ḥaw̓iiḥ, Elected Chief & Council and advisors to ensure that the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ nation once again retained control over decisions regarding economic development within the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ haḥuułii, and to ensure that all development activities benefit the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ people collectively, respect and reflect ʕaḥuusʔatḥ values, foster sustainable economic growth within the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ community, and adhere to principles of good business and governance.

The role of MHEI is to exercise and invest in stewardship and the sustainable management of the resources of ʕaḥuusʔatḥ haḥuułii in such a manner so as to balance Ahousaht cultural values, ecological integrity, and the social and economic wellbeing of the ʕaḥuusʔatḥ people.

BlueOcean’s engagement includes advisory on the acquisition of a resort and adventure company and subsequently to assist in business plan development and capital planning to successfully relaunch these businesses within the territory.

 
 

Tofino wilderness resort

Located on traditional Ahousaht territory and commonly referred to Clayoquot Sound, Tofino Wilderness Resort offers 16 luxury guest rooms, lounge and restaurant, spa facilities, unique longhouse, a near new fleet of vessels and extensive adventure equipment.  Formally called Quait Bay floating lodge, then Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, the resort was recently acquired by Maaqutusiss Hahoulthee Enterprise Inc. (MEHI) and is currently being refurbished for a spring 2024 opening. In addition to seasonal eco-tourism activities (May – October), the facilities will be used for week-long youth and adult healing and wellness programs.

Based in Tofino and formerly operated as Ocean Outfitters, Ahous Adventures is an eco and cultural adventure tour company owned and operated by the Ahousaht Nation. Launching May 1, 2023 it will offer an exciting variety of excursions within Ahousaht haḥuułii (territorial lands, waters and culture) including hot springs tours, whale watching, and bear watching.
